Local businesses Ghanda Clothing Torquay and Go Ride A Wave (GRAW) have thrown support behind the Great Ocean Road Coast Committee’s (GORCC’s) #SaveTheHoodie campaign to encourage protection of the threatened Hooded Plover during their 2015/16 breeding season.

Hooded Plovers are beach-nesting birds that breed along the Surf Coast between September and May each year.
Unfortunately, their breeding season coincides with peak season crowds and the hoodies need space to nest and raise their chicks.
Beachgoers are urged to keep their distance from any nests, and to keep their dog out of breeding zones.

What can I do?
These threatened beach-nesting birds are struggling to survive!
Only 9 chicks have fledged (survived until they can fly) on the Surf Coast since 2010.
You help by sharing the official image of ‘Hamish the Hoodie’ and encouraging people and their dogs to #givethemspace.
