New Environment and Education Manager joins the team

Katie Dolling joins the GORCC management team taking on Alex MacDonald’s role while she is away on maternity leave.

Katie completed her Bachelors of Arts/ Science at Melbourne University, majoring in environmental science and geography, as well as her Graduate Diploma in Environment, focusing on policy governance and communications.

During her university studies Katie worked at the Department of Sustainability and Environment (now known as DELWP) in their cadet program, which lead to a full time job after graduating.

Katie worked on project and policy work with the natural resources division and the governance of catchment framework management.

The new Environment and Education Manager said she is excited to be back in Australia following four years working and studying in Canada.

“I’ve always been interested in living on the coast and have had my eye on the Torquay region for a while, so this job allows me to combine my ideal job in the ideal location,” she said.

Katie worked and studied in Canada at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver with their sustainability initiative fostering collaborations between university students and sustainability partners in Vancouver.

Working at the University of British Columbia has lead to Katie’s keen interest in environmental education and promoting the importance of environmental stewardship in communities, particularity in the younger generation.

“This role allows me to combine my two passions – education and the environment, and I’m very excited to be part of GORCC’s expanding education program,” Katie said.

In her spare time, Katie enjoys bike riding and is looking forward to exploring the Surf Coast Walk by bike and tent when the weather begins to improve.
