Litter is an increasing problem for local land managers as the population and tourist numbers continue to grow along the Great Ocean Road coastline.

The Great Ocean Road Coast Committee has partnered with Zoos Victoria and Tangaroa Blue to help collect and record rubbish data into the Australian Marine Debris Database for the national study. Read more

140kgs rubbish removed

An estimated 140kgs of rubbish was removed from Spring Creek, Torquay over the weekend thanks to a team of 42 volunteers.

Surfrider Foundation Surf Coast together with the Torquay Boardriders Club spent the Sunday afternoon retrieving bikes, cigarette butts and plastics from the waterways. Read more

Community effort to clean up coast

Teams of dedicated locals help start the New Year the right way with their annual beach clean-up post New Year’s Eve festivities.

The Torquay Lions Club and LorneCare environmental group have spent the first day of the year for the past 10 years removing litter and debris on the foreshore areas in Torquay and Lorne after late night celebrations. Read more
