Northern Bay College students lend a hand
A group of year 9 students from Northern Bay College have been doing some fantastic environmental work throughout term one with Great Ocean Road Coast Committee’s Coast Guardians program.
The year 9 students have been working closely with Great Ocean Road Coast’s Hilary Bouma, Education Coordinator of the Coast Guardians program, doing a variety of activities in their adopted area of Spring Creek, Torquay.
Students rally to restore Spring Creek
Following a series of environmental vandalism acts at Spring Creek in March this year, Year 9 students from the Coast Guardians Program have returned to the site to help restore the riparian habitat along the creek.

Resilient students continue fight for the environment
A series of acts of environmental vandalism have made students more determined to help protect the coastal environment. Unfortunately, hundreds of stakes and tree guards were removed from conservation sites over summer with a Spring Creek revegetation area in Torquay almost stripped bare.
140kgs rubbish removed
An estimated 140kgs of rubbish was removed from Spring Creek, Torquay over the weekend thanks to a team of 42 volunteers.
Surfrider Foundation Surf Coast together with the Torquay Boardriders Club spent the Sunday afternoon retrieving bikes, cigarette butts and plastics from the waterways. Read more
Coast Guardians prepare for World Environment Day
World Environment Day is Sunday 5th June and the Surf Coast Secondary College students have already begun to help protect valuable Surf Coast flora and fauna in today’s Coast Guardians session.
Local fauna showcased in hand painted card collection
